About Our Trainer

Megan Hawkes - Romiza

As a very young pony enthusiast I started riding both english and western. The grass roots of my training was from my family. My mother is an accomplished western/rodeo rider, my grandfather schooled and breezed track thoroughbreds, and my great grandfather was a teamster in WWI.

I became a member of pony club which emphasized not only riding but sportsmanship and team play. I attended the 4-H club and showed at local horse shows. In the early 90's I started showing A rated Jumper shows ( Newport Jumper Classic, Ritz Carlton, Saratoga, Fieldstone) with success. Then I started training with Michael Kirby trailering to CT from Cape Cod once a month and meeting him at shows.

In 1994 I competed in the Marshall and Sterling/ Children's Jumper League I qualified for the finals at Washington D. C. , placing 7th with the fastest time and one rail. In 1996 I attended the University of New Hampshire for Equine Business Management. In 2000 I purchased Highlander Farm and built it to what it is today.

I still train and show clients horses and ponies both at home and at rated shows. I continue to update my education in riding by attending clinics and taking lessons with top trainers.
